I just finished reading my latest copy of Golfsmith Clubmaker Tech. Magazine and thought you guys might like to hear this one:

2 new putter shafts are just coming out-

One from True Temper the 'T2C', which is almost twice the weight of a standard shaft. It weighs 200grms at 34'' (That's about 8oz). The idea is to promote the use of the larger muscle groups during the putting stroke. It has thicker walls to dampen negative vibrations.

The other is from UST follow this link to their home site (www.ustgolfshaft.com/images/PutterDrwg.jpg) The shaft is designed to give more feel using (wait for it) 'Frequency Filtered' technology!!!!!!!!!. It looks to me like a composite construction with carbon weave at the grip end - who knows might work.

It seems that the manufacturers have exhausted the R&D on drivers and irons, now its the putters turn. What would SC think?

John....I have NO idea how you come across this stuff.

I think it's best if you just ship it all to me. I wouldn't want you to be burdened with ALL the good stuff!

I have the UST Frequency Filter shaft in a Big Oaks putter that we made...

I'll tell you... this shaft really does seem to make a difference.  It gives EXCELLENT feedback. When hit in the sweetspot, the feeling is PURE SWEETNESS!  I've been using it for about a month now and honest to goodness it seems like my putting has improved.  It seems to help you get in the groove of continually hitting the sweetspot.

We also put in the Balance Certified weight kit in the end...

All in all, this is a wonderful feeling putter.  I'm anxious to put this shaft in one of my Camerons...since I have 2 Studio Design No.5's, I'll probably put one in one of those. Our UST rep told us we should have them in a week or less, so it'll just be a matter of putting one with the proper bend in.

Is it that much different than a regular steel shaft?

Well, it's probably personal, but like I said... I think it has a wonderful feel.  Unfortunately it's one of those things that you don't know if you like it until you try it, and to try it you really need it in YOUR putter, and then it's too late!  I try to let everyone test out my B3 putter that is interested, but even then - it's a UST FF shaft in a 34" B3 putter... not a Cameron Red X, not a Ping Anser, etc.  I'm sure EVERY putter you put this shaft in is going to have it's own feel.

I put the UST shaft in a Studio Stainless Newport Beach and it feels incredible. The shaft adds 4 swingweight points over the stock steel shaft so it feels heavier (330g feels like 340ish.) Just used a Red Studio grip which feels a tad bigger towards the bottom of the grip since the carbon fiber top of the shaft is non-tapered. I suggest trying this shaft on a gamer. I wouldn't put it in your collectible stuff.

Bump!

Just learned about the T2C shaft... and after searching through the threads, I saw this one.

http://www.golfsmith.com/products/T2C

So do any of these specialty shafts come in .355" tip diamater (besides the UST, and especially for the Fujikura)?

I have the 200 gram True Temper putter shaft in a Newport Mil Spec.  It comes in .370 only.  However, I just took my belt sander slightly extra to the tip and it fit just fine into the Newport's .355 hosel.

I really like this shaft, it helps a lot on the longer/lag putts.

Cool..I've been waiting for someone to try one of these...

Here's a question: With the heavy shaft, do you think it matters at that point what the headweight is?

I've thought about using an older 330g head with one of these shafts...could give more life to an older head that I've been using as a paper-weight. (Literally.)

Here's a question: With the heavy shaft, do you think it matters at that point what the headweight is?

I had the shaft in a Newport 2 with a 340 gram head first, before switching it to the 350g Mil Spec.  I just like the look of the Newport over the Newport 2.  I can feel the weight difference, but it is slight.  So, I think your 330g headweight will not be a problem and will work fine.  If you try this shaft you will notice pretty quickly that the weight of the putter is coming more from the shaft than the head.  It changes the balance of the putter, but for me it works.

I noticed 2 things with this shaft.  1.  I have a MUCH better touch on long putts. 2.  I roll the ball better (the ball tracks on line better with less skidding) off the face.  I have not figured out why this is, but I think it is because the shaft is really stiff which effectively adds more loft to the putter at impact.  Maybe, Stan Utley is right about needing more loft on putters.

Great review....

I think I'll order one tomorrow and see what I come up with. I've got 5-6 heads that are looking for another spin around the links before heading back for restoration.

I think they are backordered from Golfsmith.  I ordered 3 more of these TT 200 grams shafts for spares, when Golfsmith was running their friends and family sale.  I still haven't received them.

I have a UST frequency filtered shaft in my Asian Circa 62 #3 and it is Awesome!  These putters have a great feel to begin with, but if you can believe it it's better with this shaft.  Plus it looks cool as hell.  CAM

do those of you that have tried a graphite shaft sense any difference in your putting tempo?  Always figured some of the graphite shafts that are offered may speed it up if anything depending on the head weight.

I've got a graphite shaft on a TeI3 longneck, offset the weight loss with a heavy grip. It works very well on a fast green when you really need to control speed.

I'm going to put in a UST FF shaft in my Studio Style Newport Mid that is cut down to 35".  I thought about going with just a regular steel putter shaft since this putter has the GSS insert, but am curious about the UST.  Also, I think that the new shaft I get will be at around 75g lighter than the one in there now.
