Oddly enough, I had changed my avatar to one of my drawings fitting my recent avatar theme and thought it might be cool to see some of our artists of TCC, and saw Ewarts thread about his Dad's art. Let's see what some of our TCC members have done... biggrin

I worked as an artist full time for about 9 years before moving into the installation field.  I did primarily sculpture and silkscreen prints.  One series I worked on was sort of a combination of 2D and 3D that I referred to as "Pop-up Portraits" based on the idea of pop-up books.  Here's one of only 2 works I ever did that had anything to do with golf.  See if you know who it is and where it is.

Not too big. Most of them were in an 8x12 drawing pad. This was about the biggest I did on something like an 18x30 water color paper with pencil...

I actually did that one for a girlfriend. I think it was the only one I ever did specifically for someone. Unfortunately, we broke up and she told me she burned it(nice!) luckily I had made copies, something I have almost never done.

I used to do landscape oils, soooo long ago, almost in another lifetime.  Now I'll create something to fill a space to match decor around the house.

An apt one, considering the weather at the moment, which I originally painted as one piece, then cut it in half to hang either side of a window.

These two are in my 'den' - one is supposed to be a self-portrait, at the top of my back-swing (some artistic license used) and the other, not a painting, but some trout fishing flies that I tied and framed.  I used to be a very keen fly-fisher, trout & salmon, but just couldn't find enough free time to fish and golf.

I painted this one for a very good friend of mine who used to be the principal at a Jaguar auto dealership.  I tried to get the jaguar (yes, it's supposed to be a jaguar) amidst the company colors of Jaguar, green and gold.  He had it on the wall of his office.  Sadly, he's no longer with us, so his widow gave it back to me a couple of years ago.

Another piece, again not a painting but a collage, I did as a 'memory box' type of deal.  My wife was working particularly hard and bringing quite a few of work issues home with her (social worker, dealing with some rather worrying cases) and I felt she needed to spend some time on herself.  I arranged for a long weekend in Paris for us at New Year a few years ago.  I gave her the 'package' at Christmas, along with lots of 'French related' bits & pieces, all wrapped in red, white & blue - the poem was wrapped around the tickets and was the last thing she opened.

All the sections are of some of the places we visited, some cut-out photos, flight boarding cards, Metro undergound tickets, etc.  The inner frame is made of cut-out sections of one of the tourist maps we got.  The four days we had in Paris, was probably the most memorable short-break we've ever had......... but it was so cold.

Linden, I especially relate to your comment "almost in another lifetime" - some keen detail and mastery of the paint there, my friend.

And Snuffy - one of the real high points of this years ICC for me was a private "Trunk Show" of this series of work.  You need a 21" monitor to see all the detail on a computer wink

Well, I don't know if this is 'art', but I'm in the autobody trade and occasionally we do restoration work; sometimes I'm called upon to replicate badges, small parts, switches, gear shift knobs, etc for parts that are no longer available to buy... pretty difficult to get hold of a 1935 Austin 7 hood badge or a 1950 Jaguar MkV handbrake button, for example.  As long as there's a part to copy, even if it's broken or rusty, I can usually duplicate it - making silicone rubber moulds and polyester resin with different pigments.

Anyway, a couple of months ago, one of our suppliers sent us some alginate casting media by mistake.  Alginate is the safe stuff that dentists use for taking gum impressions with and sculptors use it for lifecasting direct from the body. We kept it and had some fun casting hands, faces, etc.  It degenerates quite quickly, so molding has to be done almost immediately.

I had a couple of ideas of my own and experimented with a couple of things.  None are complete yet (my workshed at home is so cold at the moment and the heating in there isn't as efficient as it could be) so the pics are all experimental work in progress.

These are of a 'sculpture' of two hands removing a headcover from a putter - I thought of this as a sort of display for a favourite headcover.  I called the piece 'anticipation' - obviously it needs cleaning-up and finishing, but you'll get the idea.

These are a couple of hands I did with the idea of using them as 'putter-props' - I'm sure most of us have at least one putter propped against a wall somewhere, to pick up and carpet putt or to gently stroke an imaginary ball.  These are the plaster castings from which I'll make rubber molds to cast the finished piece in bronze resin.  Again, they are experimatal work in progress so I would forsee them being on a wooden plinth which is fixed to a wall.  The putter just slips in between the thumb and fingers.

What a great thread, huge fan of Dali as well but never drew in that style. Got hooked on mechanical drawing in high school and mostly sketched buildings, bridges or anything structured.

All of the stuff posted here is great, some of it so simple but it makes you stop and look twice at the detail.

Snuffy - used to do similar stuff but nowhere near as good as your stuff. Loved to just doodle these giant sketch book pages until they were full. Building off of simple shapes and watching them develop into complex forms that draw your eye in every which direction.

Everything I had is now gone, never thought of it as good enough to keep  : (

Keep em' coming!

I thought I'd post my final pieces of my unit 2 GCSE I'm currently doing...

The first pic is a media study in biro and tippex, coffee and biro and coloured pencil

The second is my final piece (a work in progress), in biro and tippex and a little in coffee and biro. It will be in the same media as the previous when it's done.

Oh yeh and btw. it's a lobster before anyone asks Tongue

Happy Labor Day!!!

Wow - I am really blown away by all of the talent hidden by keyboards!!!  What I'm about to post seems mediocre at best compared to what I see here.  Wonderful stuff, just amazing!

My talent is not in drawing or painting, but in filling in things other people have drawn or painted.  I like to call it coloring with needle and thread.  I used to be an avid needlepointer.  And I say "used to be" because ever since I found this site, my needlepointing has really suffered.  (I can't type and stitch at the same time Sad)  But here are some of the Christmas ornaments I've done and am packing away.

Enjoy!

One more ornament & the some wearable art!!  I like to make belts - they are the easiest pieces to do (no fancy stitches), and more people get to see my handiwork!!!  The first belt I did for Nancy for Christmas.  It's the school she went to from 4th through 12th grades.  The second belt is something I did for myself - it'll go with anything!!!

Now let's see more of the real art,
Paige
